論美國金融危機

我呀媽: 美國係奉行自由經濟,佢咁即係粗暴干預!

乜干預係用粗暴o黎形容o既咩?!

真係粗暴干預?!

May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships
So that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,
So that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger and war,
So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and
To turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness
To believe that you can make a difference in the world,
So that you can do what others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor.

Twisted, but Amen

Bible study research - Gospel

Start date: April 22, 2008
Expected end date: May 31, 2008

Objective: The purpose of this exercise and analysis is to further my understanding of the two tier context of the gospel (Fee and Stuart 2003). More specifically, it is my goal to investigate the context of the gospel writers for them to compile the teachings and records of Jesus' ministry. The findings of the investigation will inform us in the discussion of whether the existence of a context outside of Jesus' context affect the credibility and authority of the scriptures.

Methodology: As Fee and Stuart (2003) claimed as the most widely accepted, the gospel of Mark was written first and was used to formulate the other two gospels: Matthew and Luke. The methodology adopt this view for our exercise. I will spend 2 to 3 days to copy the gospel of Mark on pieces of paper. The gospel is broken down into paragraphs by the characterizing each coherent paragraphs as narrative (N), teaching (T w/ context and w/o context) and miracle (M). I isolate miracle from merely narrative for flexibility. This will allow me to conduct more anaylsis in the future. Then I will read through Matthew and Luke using these slips. Any similarities and distinctions will be documented. They may be marked as addition, omission, varied style, varied content, varied context or identical.

Discipline -

This is how virtuous men train themselves: Through meditation and reflection, they improve their character. They culture good temperament through leading a parsimonious life.
Unless we purify our hearts and limit our desires, we cannot clearly determine our ambitions. Unless we are stable and quiet, we cannot realize the ideal through long term assiduous study.
In order to learn, we must search and discover in quietness. We need to learn to aquire skills and talents. Without studious learning, our skills and talents will not be developed and expand.
And without steadfast will, we cannot complete our learning.
We cannot motivate and inspire our spirits in sensual indulgence and profligacy; negligence and indolence. Nor can we cultivate our personality and moral integrity in heedlessness and rashness.
We age as the years fly by. Our passion pass away with time. They become like leaves that wither and fall.
Will it still make a difference if we want to change then? When we are left behind by the development of the society and have nothing to contribute, when we can only mourn alone in our broken houses, what can we change then?

Five months later

To write or not to write. It is the same question. Five months of activities, thoughts, emotions and experience. What should I write? I agree with C.S. Lewis. What I think as important may not really be in the long run. What I think as insignificant may have some lasting impacts unrevealed.
How should I write them? Give me words so that I can recount them with precision. Obviously I am assuming objectivity is the goal. Maybe the facts, even if accurately recorded, are just unimportant. I should perhaps write as a third person processing these facts through critical analysis. Which would be more valuable?
Why should I write it? This should be a more important question. It is interesting how I just shared with someone that "once you see the value and meaning in something, our habits can change accordingly." But that is with regard to religious practices.
There are a few reasons I can think of. One is to have a recollection of memories. A side note that I came across the new "memory" function on xanga and find the statement "Olivia has no memory" very humorous. Even if you have a recollection of memories in writing, in pictures, in vedio, experience with the memories will always be different from the experience of the memories. The former is such as "Grabbing wind and catching shadow" (捕風捉影) and "capturing the moon in the water" (水中撈月). Though such experience is not my desire, I give gnosis value to it.
Another is the expression of Self. It is tempting and so gratifying to indulge in Self "realization", "enlightenment" when I write. But I see no real value in it. There are probably millions of blogs on the internet. The admirable ones I found are not those whose authors present great philosophy or deep insights. They are authors who unselfishly documented up-to-date and comprehensive information and analysis on topics and issues. One can devote an entire site to document, discuss, and contribute to the knowledge of environmental technology, of moral and ethics, of fashion trends, of conservativism. In the end, self-centeredness does not help others to get to know you. An experiential knowledge of one's passion to the environment through their action, commitment and discourse gives substance to a relationship while knowing the statement "I love the environment" ends at the statement. Unfortunately, self-centeredness is one of my greatest vice. I reasoned therefore I should avoid writing blog.  Not blogging will not worsen my depravity but that does not help my character neither. Abstinance is not the way to higher moral living but breakthrough: facing your vice and overcoming it.
The third reason is a "romantic" one.  (Romantic is in quotation because I am referring to the technical romanticism.) It goes like this: one day when I die, people will look at these collection of writings and know that I have lived. They may even celebrate my genius, my ideas and my experience. How sentimental! Most of my entries are not private because I began to see the danger of such intention. I question how accurate an image others can draw about a person through the collection of their writings. It is important to write with context if one's chief motive to keep a diary is for others to understand them. Having photos, videos and audio, what I call metadata will help to draw a more accurate picture also. Otherwise, thoughts and ideas documented without context or metadata are not very helpful to provide a clear picture of oneself.
Mary Warren died last night.
Nothing much was known about her apart from this one blog site.
She had written an entry every day for 2 years.
"I am very happy today, things are going great. Life sometimes offer us pleasant surprises."
"We ought to live a grateful life. People who complain and argue are simply foolish."
"God, thank you."
"Why do people always judge each other? I don't understand!"
"Love is a mysterious thing. How it can hurt so much sometimes?"
"The lyrics of I will remember you."
"If you want to know, you should ask. There is no use to pretend."
If her blog consists of nothing else but materials of such kind, we cannot draw many conclusions with confidence of anything about her, can we?
Even though it may not be your chief motive to keep a diary for others, the fact that we make it public should caution us how we write. Your readers are always interpreting, mostly, subconconsiously. It can be dire when we are not aware of the weakness and limitation of our interpretations.
